Very often situation is faced that the dryer is moving yet there is no heat. There can be numerous reasons behind this. May be the fuse has blown. You need to replace it. If the fuse is alright, may be something has gone wrong with the temperature knob. Check it with the VOM. Set the meter to RX1 and the probes to the knob terminals. Deflection of the needle from zero to infinity or infinity to zero indicates perfect functioning of the knob. Else, replace it.
f the dryer is not working still, test to see if the dryer’s thermostat is working properly. Set the VOM to RX1 and clip the probes to the thermostat terminals. Zero reading in the meter testify no defect in the thermostat. However, the dryer will not function properly if the heating coils are bad. Check them by clipping the probes to the coils. This time 0 in the meter scale means the coils have become exhausted.
Additionally, failing of the thermostat and even the heating coils cause over heating in the appliance. Observe keenly both the things as taught in the previous part of the article.
The root cause for this can be a blocked vent. For this, both the lint trap and vent outside the house need to be examined. Blockage in any of the vent indicates accumulation of carbon monoxide in the house.
If the dryer won’t work at all again, numerous potential perpetrators are there. Defective thermostat or even the imperfect timer could be some of the reasons. Inspect and reinstate a new one, if needed. Also, check the electrical outlet for required voltage level.
