Beaten By A 50 Cent Part
Well, almost...
The car involved in this latest challenge is a 2002 BMW 330Ci. It came in for a problem in the A/C system...not blowing cold. While looking it over, I found oil leaking from the oil filter housing gasket, a split oil separator, and worn out lower control arm bushings. All in all, the estimate included nearly 27 flat rate hours worth of work.
The A/C fault was narrowed down to a leaking evaporator core. This is a relatively easy job, but does require removing the instrument panel and steering column...lots of wiring to keep track of. Accessing the oil separator and oil filter housing requires removing the airbox, throttle body assembly, and alternator...more wiring to keep track of. Add in the reality that rarely do we, as working techs, get to focus on one car at a time and you begin to understand that staying organized during a big repair is one key in its successful conclusion.
All went well, and all the work was performed. The last step was to bleed the cooling system and test drive the car. I reached in to turn the key and was rewarded with only the sound of a spinning engine...the car would not start. OK, I left something important unplugged. I looked over the repair work and found that I had not plugged one of the DME (BMW for ECM) connectors back in the right place. With that mistake corrected, I again reached in and started the car. This time it started right up, but now the MIL was on. I still have something plugged in wrong.
Pulling the codes, I got a code for the evap purge solenoid circuit. Looking into the engine compartment, I could see that the solenoid was connected to the harness. I removed the connector, looked inside, and saw only one terminal there. The solenoid needs two to work. Obviously I've crossed connectors somewhere. (Note here: Most connectors are designed to only fit their component. The key here is the word "Most"...meaning NOT ALL). I removed the airbox for access to the wiring I had undone, and started looking for the match. I found it at the oil pressure switch at the back of the oil filter housing I had removed. The two connectors would interchange with each other, but one had one terminal and the other had two. Swapping the two cleared the cause of the EVAP code, and I again started the engine.

where to get a wiring schematic to hook up a white rogers 2 stage heat 1 stage cool thermostat?
this thermostat will also be hooked up to a relay
Well even if you get a schematic for the low voltage wires you must still check out the color code they wired to the furnace... but for the most part...... R is for the 24v hot.... W is for first stage heat W1 is second stage heat... G is the fan.... Y is cooling... hope i helped a bit... if not try their website....
HVAC (Thermostats)
This is my third air conditioning tutorial. This one is about thermostats, or should I say, the Honeywell VisionPro 8000. Thank God and Honeywell.
