Seventeen Hundred Reasons Thursday, April 12, 2001 was the day I learned I was battling cancer. I was a single mom, in my 30’s and was in my third month of unemployment after a layoff. The day actually started out great - a few days earlier I’d accepted an offer for a new job - a cut in responsibility and pay, but the proverbial ‘foot in the door’. My kids were on spring break, so we’d decided to celebrate in one of our favorite ways - driving to the coast for an afternoon picnic on the beach. Feeling fine, I breezed out the door with the promise that I just had this quick check in with my surgeon - to make sure my incisions were healing well and likely remove sutures - and then I’d get back home, pack our lunch and we’d be off for a day of sand, water, and if we were lucky, maybe even a little sunshine.
After all, the biopsy had been more of a precaution - just a measure to rule out any worries, as my symptoms were not typically associated with cancer and I was healthy, fit, and considered ‘too young’ for breast cancer - “odds are 1 in 10,000,” had been the surgeon’s words.
Good 12 step recovery verse 4 a card?
My husband gets out of rehab tomarrow & Im looking for a good recovery verse to write on the inside of a card I got for him.I know there are so many good ones,but thats just the problem....there is so many!Can anyone suggest some good verses or quotes?
Do something more important--get him a copy of the book "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking" by Allen Carr. If your husband's rehab is characteristic of others nationwide, then it's success rate is a low 12-17% (ask your husband to ask his rehab center what their success rate is). Carr's 4-hour courses claim to have a 90% success rate, and his book on smoking has 'cured' 5 million people with a 90% success rate as well.
AA--the 12-step program--is a nice program, and you meet people-- but it comes from a place of weakness (ie., you could relapse any moment, you're always an alcoholic, you have to have "will-power," which is precisely what many alcoholics do not have). It never removes temptation for many in recovery. EasyWay removes the temptation. With EasyWay you come from a place of strength, not weakness.
Another thing: does your husband crave sweets and coffee in the morning, or at times during the day? Some believe that over 80% of alcoholics are hypoglycemic, or on their way there, and cravings for sweets and coffee (and alcohol) are symptoms of hypoglycemia. He may need to be on a low-carbohydrate diet (Americans have notoriously high carbohydrate diets).
Larsen's book "Seven Weeks to Sobriety" is a big help in getting the alcoholic body to heal. Her vitamins are expensive, though--better to get them at swansonvitamins.com. Swansons has good vitamins at about half the cost. Glutamine really helps with cravings and with sugar lows.
