Follow up to my Honda Civic Starter problem?

Thank you very much for all your answers. I specificaly asked my mechanic about replacing the shims, but he replied that: "honda civics do not have shims, that only american cars do"
???Go figure. He says that he needs to replace the starter switch and some other components that have to do with the starter. He says it's quite expensive and that for Civics they only sell the whole package, such the electrical switch or starter switch and whatever else comes along with the electrical system, I don't know if it's real or just bull to get more money. I also would like to know what can be the long term problem of having my car start as such and if it is really somenthing I should adress with concern. Really, it sdoes not bother me exept for the possibility that it might affect somenthing else down the road.
